From Passion Project to the UK's Favourite Physical Media Frame Supplier
When Frame-A-Game launched, there was nothing else like it. The idea was straightforward: physical game collectors deserved display solutions built specifically for their media, not adapted from generic photo frames or repurposed shadow boxes. Like others who have since entered this space, we began with the same off-the-shelf frames you will find many of them still using today, sourced from the same Swedish supplier that has become something of a quiet industry standard. It did not take long to realise why that was a problem. Those frames are limiting by design, unsuitable for the full range of physical media a serious collector might want to display, and not built to the standard a premium product has any right to carry. So we changed course. We partnered with a UK frame manufacturer who could build to our exact specifications, which opened up possibilities that simply do not exist when you are working within someone else's constraints. That partnership is still at the heart of everything we make. Others are still cutting corners with the same cheap supplier we left behind, accepting the limitations that come with it to keep their costs down. We were not willing to make that trade, and our customers are better off for it.
We have never felt the need to loudly announce that we got here first. Being first means very little if the product is not worth talking about. What we focused on was making frames that were genuinely great – great enough that the people who bought them told other people, who told other people, until something that started as a passion project became something far bigger than we ever mapped out on paper. The growth has been remarkable, and we mean that genuinely. But we did not get here on our own. We got here with a community of collectors who saw the value in what we were building and chose to be part of it. That means more to us than any first-to-market claim ever could.
Today there are a handful of companies operating in this space, which is a natural consequence of building something people actually want. But presence in a market and quality within it are two very different things, and if you are weighing up your options it is worth understanding what actually separates them.
Some alternatives you will find online share surface similarities with what we offer – magnetic frames, slipcase displays, engraved plaques. The vocabulary is familiar because we established it. Where things diverge is in the detail, and the detail is where collectors tend to care most.
Take materials. Most Frame-A-Game frames are built using real Italian wood, bespoke to each product, made to a standard we would be comfortable putting our name on for years to come. Some competitors in this space are continuing to offer products with off-the-shelf frames with modifications added on top. There is a meaningful difference between a bespoke frame and a repurposed one, and collectors deserve to know which they are buying. Claiming equivalence between the two does not hold up when you put them side by side.
UV protection is another area worth paying attention to. Some competitors treat it as an optional upgrade, something you select and pay extra for at checkout. At Frame-A-Game it has always been standard, included on every frame, because protecting your collection from fading should never be something you have to remember to opt into. The collectors buying from us are often displaying rare editions, signed copies, or pieces with genuine sentimental value. Those things deserve proper care as a baseline, not as an add-on.
Personalised engraved plaques are available across the Frame-A-Game range, but a plaque only means something when the frame behind it is worth the wall space. The materials, the UV protection, the bespoke manufacture, and the breadth of what we offer are what make the difference between a display and something that genuinely does justice to a collection you care about.
